“I can’t say enough about my Fiberreeds. There is no comparison!”
His free human name is Bastiaan Anthonie of the family Baaij. Music and musical expression/ education has always been in my live. He was raised in a musical family in a small town Zevenhuizen near Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The moment he could walk. music instruments were always near to him and available for to learn to express myself with them. Expressing through sounds, frequency/cymatics and its benefits on the human body and brain went from passion to profession.
In his teens, he suffered severe from Asthma and Sleep apnea yet he did not knew what that was. He only saw his parents using an inhalator when they where out of breath of tens. His parents never noticed him having troubles breathing yet he did severely. Singing and expressing himself in music was his remedy/ medicine. The result of standing out in his musical expression was to be bullied constantly. In those encounters fighting and standing up for himself became an almost daily task. This only fuelled his strength in making more music and become unstoppable passionate expressing himself. It even became of inspiration to others in likewise situations.
Studied music therapy in Amersfoort (NL) , music education in Royal Conservatory The Hague, teaching at Hogeschool Midden Holland (NL) and Cultural Leisure Management at the Hogeschool in Rotterdam (NL). He walked all paths of the professional music ladder and lived an active and very unhealthy rock life. (long hair, smoking, drinking, too much coffee, late night gigs in bars and commercial events and radio and TV). This road was fun, yet he had to pay a big price and further he was not willing to go. So, he stepped out before the big train hit him. He stopped smoking, drinking and unhealthy eating habits due to the mastery of other music instruments as the didgeridoo, singing bowls and extensive breath work training.
In his journey, playing saxophone, didgeridoo, native flutes, signing & performing with singing bowls all these aspects presented their healing frequencies. And there he found his calling. Manupeo was then the name that was giving to him by an Aboriginal elder and translates as: He who walks with the Sleepers.
His calling became to serve as a messenger to connect music experience with mental and physical well-being. Since 1994 he started professional working as multi-instrumentalist and educator in 9 instruments (guitar, tenor and alto saxophone, vocal/singing, didgeridoo, native American flute, singing bowls, drum & percussion, blues harp and piano for composing). Bastiaan created various businesses as such DMDP Music education/ DMDP Records talent scouting / Didgeridooschool Rotterdam / Didgeridooschool Bastiaan Baaij & The Breath Control Academy and my artist space as Manupeo Music Experience.
